Exforge is a combination medication containing Amlodipine and Valsartan.
Amlodipine works by inhibiting calcium ion entry into muscle cells, leading to relaxation of these cells and reducing pressure within blood vessels.
Valsartan is an angiotensin II receptor blocker, preventing the release of aldosterone which causes water and sodium retention, thus leading to high blood pressure.
Uses of Exforge:
It is primarily used to treat high blood pressure.
Contraindications:
It should not be used in cases of hypersensitivity to any of its components, during the second and third trimesters of pregnancy, and in cases of anuria.
Side Effects:
Common side effects may include dizziness, cold symptoms such as nasal congestion and sneezing, and sore throat.
Precautions:
Caution is advised in patients with heart failure or those undergoing dialysis, as excessive hypotension may occur.
