Cozaar Treating Blood Pressure
Cozaar (Losartan) is used to treat patients with high blood pressure (hypertension) in adults and in children and adolescents aged 6 - 18 years. It belongs to a group of medicines known as angiotensin II receptor antagonists.
Uses of Cozaar
• To protect the kidney in hypertensive type 2 diabetic patients with laboratory evidence of impaired renal function and proteinuria ≥ 0.5 g per day.
• To treat patients with chronic heart failure when therapy with specific medicines called angiotensin-converting-enzyme inhibitors (ACE inhibitors) is not considered suitable by your doctor.
• In patients with high blood pressure and a thickening of the left ventricle, Losartan has been shown to decrease the risk of stroke.
Warnings
Do not take Losartan if you are allergic to losartan or to any of the other ingredients of this medicine, if you are more than 3 months pregnant, or if your liver function is severely impaired.
